Meet Douglas Mottershead
Founder | Creator | Lead Developer of PharmaSea
With a career that spans from the pharmacy counter to pharmacy management — across independents, chains, and as a seasoned locum — I’ve experienced the full spectrum of community pharmacy operations. I've seen what works, what doesn't, and the common frustrations that professionals and patients alike face daily.
Over the years, I became the go-to person for technical fixes and workflow improvements, which eventually sparked a bigger shift in me. I retrained in software development with one clear goal: to bring smarter, safer, and more user-friendly tools to the heart of pharmacy.
That goal became PharmaSea — a bespoke medication management platform built from the ground up, combining clinical understanding with technical insight. It’s designed for the people at the centre of care: patients who need more independence, and carers who need more confidence.
We’ve built a proprietary API that lets users scan their medications in and out, giving them a clearer, real-time record of what they’re taking and when. Whether it’s reducing unnecessary blister packs or replacing unreliable paper MAR charts, PharmaSea brings accountability and clarity to an area long overdue for change.
We're proud to have a lead pharmacist actively involved in development to ensure everything we build is not just innovative — but clinically sound and person-centred. My vision is to create technology that integrates naturally into existing systems and genuinely empowers its users, without overcomplication or steep learning curves.

With over a decade of experience in both independent and chain pharmacies, Jodie brings a deep understanding of the real-world challenges patients face when managing their medications. From pharmacy management to frontline patient care, she's seen firsthand how easily adherence can break down — often due to miscommunication, complex regimens, or limited access to reliable support.
Jodie joined PharmaSea to help bridge that gap. Her passion lies in making modern, tech-powered tools that actually serve patients — not complicate their lives. As our Lead Pharmacist, she ensures that everything we deliver — from medicine scanning to dose reminders — is built around safe, person-centred care.
